The Pittsburgh Penguins have re-signed defenseman Ian Cole to a new three-year contract, worth a reported $2.1 million per year according to the team’s website. Cole was acquired at last year’s trade deadline for defenseman Robert Bortuzzo and a 7th-round draft pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. Cole was the fourth-leading scorer on the team in the 20-regular season and five post-season games he appeared in. (Behind only Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist and Brandon Sutter. He was a restricted free agent.
Today is the deadline to ink restricted free agents, with free agency beginning Wednesday in the NHL.
