The Pittsburgh Penguins signed winger Brock McGinn during the opening day of free agency in the NHL. They also re-signed Evan Rodrigues and have brought back Dominick Simon. (See-moan) McGinn comes in from the Carolina Hurricanes and signed a four-year contract with a yearly average of $2.75 million. Rodrigues signed a one-year deal worth $1 million, and Simon signed a one-year, two-way contract. He played 11 games for Calgary last season while moving back and forth with their top minor league club.
The Penguins have lost defenseman Codi Ceci, who signed a four-year free agent deal with Edmonton.
The Pens have signed a young free agent goaltender named Filip Lindberg to a two-year, entry-level contract. The 22-year old played for the University of Massachusetts last year and helped lead his team to the Frozen Four final. Lindberg led the NCAA in goals-against average and save percentage. The Finland native had been drafted by the Minnesota Wild in 2019, but opted not to sign.
