The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Florida Panthers 4-3 in a shootout last night. Bryan Rust scored twice in the game, with both goals coming in the first period. Evgeni Malkin scored on a second period power play to give the Penguins a two-goal lead, but the Panthers came back to tie the game and force overtime. After a scoreless extra period, Florida won the shootout 1-0. The Penguins are now 1-6 this season in shootouts, and have lost the last four.
The Pens had defeated Columbus 6-3 Friday night to complete a five-game homestand. They visit Tampa Bay Tuesday before heading to Buffalo Thursday.
Sidney Crosby had two assists last night. He now needs just two more points over the Penguins remaining 10 games to secure his 20th consecutive season averaging a point per game, the most in NHL history.
Prospect goaltender Sergei Murashov won his 10th consecutive game Saturday, setting the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton record for consecutive wins for a rookie.
