The Pittsburgh Penguins lost 4-3 in overtime to the Buffalo Sabres last night in their preseason opener. Zach Aston-Reese scored the Penguins opening goal. Aston-Reese was signed last spring after leading the NCAA in scoring while playing at Northeastern. Also scoring for the Penguins were defenseman Olli Maata and Jay McClement, who is with the Pens on a pro tryout basis. Goaltender Antti Niemi made his Penguins debut. He stopped 21 of 23 shots. The Pens host Detroit tonight at PPG Paints Arena. Face-off is 7pm.
