The Pittsburgh Penguins lost to the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 New Year’s Eve. The Pens tied the game at 2-2 early in the third period when Drew O’Connor scored the second of his two goals. Detroit scored the game-winner with just over five minutes remaining in the game, and added an empty-net goal in the final minute.
The Pens fell to 17-17-5 overall and visit the Florida Panthers Friday night.
Defenseman Marcus Pettersson will be back from injury for the game in Florida. Kris Letang was placed in IR.
