The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Philadelphia Flyers 7-1 last night at PPG Paints Arena. The Penguins scored four goals in the first period, sending Flyers goaltender Brian Elliott to the bench. It was the first time since December, 2011 that the Pens scored four goals in the opening period.
Seven different players scored goals. Sidney Crosby had one of the goals and three points. He now has more than 100 points against the Flyers in his career. Crosby has also scored more than 100 points in his career against the New York Islanders. No other active player has 100 points against any opponent.
The Pens are now 8-5 overall with 16 points. They are tied for third in the Metropolitan Division with the New York Islanders. The Pens will host the Edmonton Oilers Saturday afternoon.
