The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Buffalo Sabres 3-1 last night and clinched a playoff berth. Sidney Crosby scored his 41st goal of the season. Conor Sheary and Nick Bonino added the other goals. Goaltender Matt Murray stopped 29 of 30 shots. The Pens moved back into second place in the Metropolitan Division with 101 points. They are one point behind first-place Washington and one point in front of Columbus. The Pens visit Ottawa Thursday.
The Penguins lost forward Jake Guentzel in the opening period last night to a concussion on a cheap hit from behind. Crosby also took a stick to the face and lost a couple of teeth.
