The NHL announced Tuesday that San Jose Sharks forward Patrick Marleau wouldn’t face discipline after his hit to the head of Pittsburgh Penguins forward Bryan Rust. The NHL determined that the principle point of contact wasn’t Rust’s head, and factored in the fact that Rust was off-balance and reaching for the puck when he was hit. Head coach Mike Sullivan said that Rust is “day to day” with an upper body injury. If Rust can’t play in today’s game, then that would be a big blow for the Penguins. Rust has arguably been the Penguin’s hottest forward in the past few games; he notched a goal in Monday’s game against San Jose and netted two in Game Seven against the Tampa Bay Lightning in the previous round.
The Penguins and Sharks will clash tonight in Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. Puck drop is set for 8 pm at the Consol Energy Center. Listen to the game on WISR 680 AM, with pregame coverage starting at 7:30 pm.
