Pennsylvania set a new daily record of COVID cases Wednesday.
The state Department of Health says there were more than 17,000 new cases of COVID—that’s a 40 percent increase compared to last week.
Incoming Acting Secretary of Health Keara Klinepeter is encouraging people to get their booster shot as cases rise.
“Many people eligible to receive a booster dose still need to receive the extra shot to maximize their protection against the Omicron variant,” Klinepeter said. “It’s no longer sufficient to be fully vaccinated. We need every eligible individuals to get their booster dose to maximize their protection.”
Statewide hospitalizations have also gone up since last week as well, with more than 4,800 people receiving treatment for COVID.
We’re expecting to hear a local update on hospitalizations from Butler Health System later today.
