Tuesday is Charter Day in Pennsylvania.
A recent resolution of the state House of Representatives commemorates the charter that King Charles II of England granted William Penn in 1681.
The charter for what became Pennsylvania was given to Penn to repay him for a debt that the king owed to Penn’s father, Admiral Sir William Penn.
The resolution also honors the frame of government that Penn drafted to serve as a constitution for his colony which included free elections, freedom of religion, and freedom from unjust imprisonment.
