After the passage of a federal COVID-19 relief bill, Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is warning residents about scams having to do with the federal stimulus checks that will be sent to everyone.
According to Attorney General Josh Shapiro, scammers will increase their efforts knowing that they might be able to defraud people out of this assistance money.
Shapiro encourages consumers to protect themselves by double checking the websites and email addresses of offers for information, products, or services related to COVID-19. Be careful with unsolicited emails asking for personal information. Do not click on links or open email attachments from unknown or unverified sources.
Residents are invited to sign up for text scam alerts which offer tips for people to avoid becoming a victim. Visit the Attorney General’s website for more information.
