Pennsylvania’s top law enforcement official is encouraging residents to take precautions as scammers continue to try to trick consumers.
According to Attorney General Michelle Henry, one such ploy involves placing fake advertisements for rental properties and altering legitimate ads to obtain personal information. Those looking to rent a place to live should be wary of not being able to physically see the property or of being asked to purchase gift cards as payment.
Another complaint that the AG has been dealing with recently involves a “risk-free” travel scheme run by Massachusetts-based tour operator Vantage Travel Services Incorporated. Vantage allegedly took large sums of money from mostly senior citizens and then failed to provide promised refunds when the some customers were not able to travel.
Anyone who believes that they may have been a victim of scams like these is asked to contact the Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection.
