The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation has announced a new long-range plan to upgrade guiderails to meet new federal standards.
Over a three-year span beginning in 2019, a total of $45 million will be spent to upgrade and replace guiderail end treatments across the state’s interstate system.
New standards have been adopted by the American Association of State Highway Transportation Officials to make guiderails safer for newer vehicle designs.
PennDOT maintains nearly 10,000 miles of guiderails across the 40,000 mile state-maintained road network.
