A large grant has been awarded that will make a local rail renovation project possible.
PennDOT announced that the Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad Company will receive $3.6 million to make improvements at the Butler Yard.
The project will include shop and yard tracks leased by the company as well as funding to restore a crossover connection with Canadian National and repairing eight bridge structures at the northern subdivision.
This grant covers 70 percent of the project with another 30 percent required from Buffalo and Pittsburgh. The grants are drawn from the Multimodal Fund which is a part of Act 89. Visit penndot.gov for more information.
