With the wintry weather hitting the area, PennDOT is reminding drivers to take it easy on the road.
PennDOT Secretary Leslie Richards cited numerous accidents on icy and snowy roads last year.
“In last November and December alone, there were 2,306 crashes,” Richards said. “These resulted in nine fatalities and 907 injuries.”
She says slowing down, increasing following distance, and avoiding distractions are keys to ensuring safe travel in snow and icy conditions.
Richards hopes drivers understand what PennDOT tries to accomplish during a winter storm.
“During winter weather events, the department’s goal is to keep roads passable, not completely clear,” Richards said. “The heavier the traffic or snow fall, the longer our routes may take to complete.”
