Butler County was spared from winter weather during Tuesday’s morning commute, but PennDOT says they are ready for whatever winter weather comes our way this season.
PennDOT’s Butler County Maintenance Manager Mike Mattis encourages drivers to slow down and have patience.
“We try to hit every road as soon as possible but people need to have patience. Our average cycle time is roughly two to three hours per truck, because each truck has between 30-40 miles that they take care of,” PennDOT’s Butler County Maintenance Manager Mike Mattis said. “We work on the main roadways first, and then go to those secondary roads.”
Drivers are also advised not to pass a plow truck- even if you’re on a four-lane highway like Route 8.
“It’s really dangerous. Stay back roughly 500 feet back,” he said.
Though we didn’t see any snow Tuesday, the National Weather Service is expecting a ‘wintry mix’ of rain, snow and sleet at some point throughout the day on Thursday.
