From a glorious day Friday- sunshine & 70- to sub-freezing temperatures and snow on Sunday. Forecasters say the first snowfall of the season could come this weekend.
PennDOT is ready.
“The preparation starts when people are still using their swimming pools and going on summer vacation,” PennDOT’s Mark Mares said. “We bring the plows in, bring the spreaders in…we do preventive maintenance. We replace what needs to be replaced.”
Mares has worked with PennDOT for 32 years. One of his biggest pieces of advice for drivers traveling in the snow is patience.
“We’re not putting down miracle material…give it time to work,” Mares said. “Every snow storm is different.”
If you come upon a plow truck- stay back. You’re goal is to keep six car lengths between you and the truck. And, don’t pass one.
“Nothing good can come out of trying to pass a plow truck,” he said. “You just have to give yourself extra time to get where you need to be.”
Temperatures will drop throughout the day on Saturday- with snow showers beginning Saturday night. Many will likely wake up to at least a light dusting of snow on Sunday morning.
