Snow is in the forecast for later today, and that means crews at PennDOT are officially getting ready for the winter season.
Butler County PennDOT Manager Mike Mattis says crews will be ready for when the weather stars, even if that means Friday.
“We bring all of our trucks in, we put the plows on and tire chains on the trucks,” Mattis said. “We also have mechanics, operators, and people from other counties come in to check the trucks to make sure the spreader and plows are on properly. We want to make sure everything is hooked-up right for our first winter event.”
Mattis says today’s annual equipment inspection is all a part of PennDOT preparing for wintry weather.
“We start to purchase our salt in the beginning of November and right now we’re full,” Mattis said. “The trucks are up-and-running and our operators are ready to run those trucks. Experts are calling for a pretty heavy winter, and we’re ready to handle any type of winter.”
Temperatures are expected to hit the freezing mark in Butler Thursday nigt, with a chance of snow showers.
