PennDOT is again planning to close a Butler Township bridge and not replace it.
At their meeting Monday night, Township Commissioners discussed a notification they recently received from PennDOT about the Lions Road bridge. The agency has determined the bridge to be unsafe so it will be abandoned at some point in the future.
It will not be replaced because PennDOT does not believe that it is necessary. Instead the agency is planning on adding new roads and ramps onto Route 422.
This is the second time that PennDOT has informed the township of these plans but the township maintains that the bridge is necessary and emergency services would be negatively impacted.
Township administrators plan on making local representatives aware of PennDOT’s plans in hopes they will be able to pressure the agency to invest in repairs.
