PennDOT District 10, which is responsible for clearing state-covered roads in Butler and four other counties, has every available truck out on the roads on Wednesday dealing with the latest winter storm.
Maintenance Manager Mike Mattis said 42 trucks are clearing 1,600 miles of state roadways within Butler County. Drivers are working extended shifts to get the roads cleared.
Still, drivers are being urged to avoid unnecessary travel and don’t go out if you don’t have to.
“Please leave with 30 minutes to an hour of extra time to get to your workplace,” Mattis said in an interview. “If you do come across a snow plow, stay back 200 to 500 feet to let the truck plow the snow and spread the material. We have enough material, manpower and equipment to handle the storm that is being predicted.”
PennDOT has eight stockpiles throughout Butler County that are manned with trucks and operators to provide full coverage during winter storms.
According to the National Weather Service, between 3 and 8 inches of snow is expected to fall in Butler County. Snow totals will vary based on where you live.
