Local residents have a better idea of what PennDOT is planning for a busy section of Route 228 after a public hearing Wednesday night.
PennDOT representatives were on hand at the Middlesex Municipal Building to explain how they plan to realign what’s known as ‘Balls Bend.’
Planning for the $24 million project began in 2012 and as long as funding is secured, construction is expected to begin in 2021. The project would then take an additional two to three years to complete.
The final plan presented is a balance of economic, environmental, and residential concerns while still achieving increased safety and mobility for motorists, officials say.
Over 16,000 vehicles use that stretch of road daily and that number is expected to increase by 25 percent over the next 20 years.
