The roof of the Penn Theater continues to leak and damage the interior of the structure.
Redevelopment Authority of the City of Butler board members were informed of the situation and the deteriorating state of the facility Thursday afternoon.
Authority maintenance staff covered a 12 by 8 foot hole in the nearly 50 year old rubber roof but no repairs are planned at this time. The water damage has already ruined the stage, collapsed part of the ceiling, and caused several doors to become nonoperational. The theater roof last received extensive repairs in the spring of 2018.
The authority purchased the Theater through an agreement with the Pittsburgh History and Landmarks Foundation at a cost of $250,000. An additional $15,000 in interest is added yearly. The Authority has been unable to make payments through this agreement for about nine years.
