Penn Power says work is underway on a new substation in southern Butler County.
The 8,000 square foot facility will serve more than 20,000 customers in Cranberry, Mars, Evans City, and Jackson Township.
Penn Power officials say the new substation will make services more efficient—including giving workers the ability to automatically restore service during an outage instead of having to send crews out to investigate.
Also, when serious accidents happen like a tree falling on wires—they hope to reduce the number of overall outages by isolating it to certain areas.
Penn Power expects the project to be completed and operational by the end of the year.
