The Pittsburgh Penguins defeated the Ottawa Senators 3-2 in double overtime last night to advance into the Stanley Cup Final round for the second consecutive year. Chris Kunitz scored twice in the game, including the game-winner in the second OT. The victory gives the Penguins a chance to defend their Stanley Cup championship, something that has not happened in the NHL in 19 seasons. Justin Schultz returned from injury and scored the other Penguins goal, which was the game’s only power play goal.
Matt Murray stopped 27 of 29 shots on goal, while Ottawa’s Craig Anderson stopped 39 of 42 shots from the Penguins.
The Pens will host the Nashville Predators, who were the final team to make the playoffs, beginning Monday night at PPG Paints Arena. Game time is 8pm. Pre-game on WISR 680am will be 6:30pm.
The Pens are now fifth all-time with 10 victories in Game seven’s.
