The Pittsburgh Penguins have lost winger Brandon Tanev to the Seattle Kraken in the NHL expansion draft. As a Penguin, Tanev had netted 18 goals and 23 assist in 100 games. He signed a six-year contract with the Pens as a free agent prior to the 2019-2020 season. Seattle also drafted Jared McCann, whom the Pens had just traded in the last week to Toronto for a prospect and draft choice.
In losing both players, the Penguins have freed up more than $6 million in salary cap space.
Other top names taken by Seattle include Calgary captain Mark Giordano, Jordan Eberle of the New York Islanders, goaltender Chris Driedger, Tampa Bay’s Yanni Gourde, a two-time Stanley Cup champion, and former Penguins defenseman Jamie Oleksiak.
