In the wake of last month’s deadly school shooting in Florida, security has not only been on the minds of local students and parents, but also emergency officials here in Pennsylvania.
Testifying before the House Veterans Affairs and Emergency Preparedness Committee, Director Rick Flinn of the Pennsylvania emergency management agency (PEMA) said state schools benefitted from a now-expired federal program called the Safe Schools Act, which he would like to see restored.
Meanwhile, the House committee is working on a package of school safety legislation, including a hotline system for threat reporting and better sharing of information between schools and mental health professionals.
