If you over indulge in sweet treats and Cajun food today, you’re not alone. It’s Fat Tuesday.
The annual tradition expects to be a little livelier this year as pandemic restrictions wane and patrons can enjoy a night before Ash Wednesday.
Deb Krelow of the Hotel Beacon in Renfrew says she’s looking forward to another year.
“This year, especially with the market the way it is, we stocked things ahead of time. We made sure that we had okra in the house for gumbo and plenty of crab legs. We’re ready,” Krelow said.
Customers choose from a shrimp, crawfish, or crab leg boil which comes served right on the table. Krelow says people really enjoy the night.
“People love it,” Krelow said. “We have people come in and say ‘oh this reminds me of home.’ We have a lot of people from Texas and Louisiana that come in and they really, really love it.”
The Beacon has been serving a Fat Tuesday boil every month since 1995. Krelow says tonight’s will be their 344th overall.
