A petition was created by a parent of a Summit Township Elementary School student calling for the immediate resignation of Butler Area School District Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley.
The petition has over 500 signatures.
Missie Carbin created the petition on change.org. She claims Dr. Lumley put the children and faculty at Summit at risk by waiting four months after high lead levels were found in the water to inform parents.
The petition states: “Because our trust in you to protect our children has been irreparably and irretrievably broken…We ask that you, Dr. Dale Lumley, immediately step down from your position and allow us to begin the process of rebuilding trust in the Butler Area School District.”
The petition can be viewed here.
At Monday’s school board meeting, Dr. Lumley said the district’s water operator, Glenn Terwilliger, was in correspondence with the DEP and did not inform him of their findings or the extent of the situation. Dr. Lumley did apologize to parents on Monday because he was Terwilliger’s direct supervisor and said he “should have known.”
Terwilliger has been suspended with pay, pending an investigation.
