The Pittsburgh Pirate bats were silenced by San Diego Padres pitching last night in a 4-0 loss at PNC Park. Edwin Jackson pitched seven scoreless innings, holding the Pirates hitless through five innings. Pirate starter Ryan Vogelsong took the loss, despite not allowing an earned run. He allowed three hits over six innings, walking one and striking out five. Two errors in the second inning led to two runs for the Padres. Andrew McCutchen and Jordy Mercer had the only Pirate hits.
Catcher Francisco Cervelli left the game with soreness in his wrist last night. Chris Stewart will begin a rehab assignment this weekend. He has been on the disabled list for the past month.
The Bucs and Padres play their final game of the series today at 12:35pm. Jameson Taillon will start for the Pirates, who head to Los Angeles after the game.
