The U.S. government has now been partially shutdown for more than two weeks, and people are feeling the effects both here locally, and across the country.
Pennsylvania Auditor General Eugene DePasquale says the shutdown is creating financial hardship for effected federal government workers in PA and their families.
“A big chunk of federal workers- like most of the general public- are living paycheck to paycheck,” DePasquale said. “So missing one paycheck is a big hit.”
DePasquale is also concerned sales and income tax revenue collections could suffer, and that there could be a ripple effect on the state’s economy the longer the shutdown lasts.
“That’s a lot of people with less ability to spend money,” he said.
According to DePasquale, there are 100,000 federal employees in Pennsylvania. Reports indicate as many as 2,000 federal employees are working in Boyers, Butler County and are working without a paycheck.
