The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled Monday that the state’s current congressional maps are unconstitutional.
The decision comes following a years-long argument that the maps were drawn to benefit Republicans.
Under the court order, the Republican-controlled state legislature has until Feb. 9 to submit new district lines. The court says the lines must not discriminate on the basis of party registration; must be compact; and must not divide counties or municipalities unless necessary to make districts of equal population.
All of Butler County is included in the 3rd Congressional District, which is represented by Rep. Mike Kelly.
