The Pennsylvania Department of Health has published its latest set of guidelines as the process to regulate medical marijuana continues.
Health Department spokesperson April Hutcheson says the new guidelines cover the steps doctors can take in the process, including:
-How to participate in the program
-How to participate within the registry
-How to certify patients
“They’re very vital to making sure we get this medication to the patients who need it,” Hutcheson said.
Under the regulations, a patient must be diagnosed with one of 17 conditions in order to be eligible for medical marijuana and must be under the regular care of the doctor who prescribes it.
Hutcheson says the department is on track to issue permits for companies that will be processing and selling medical marijuana by the end of June. A local group has submitted an application to run a medical marijuana grow and dispensary operation in Butler City’s Pullman Center.
