Pennsylvania American Water announced Friday plans for a $3 million project to replace aging water lines in both Butler City and Saxonburg.
Officials say the replacement of three miles of lines will improve service reliability and increase water flow and pressure for firefighting operations.
In the city, water lines will be replaced on Hansen Avenue, Pittsburgh Road (Route 8) and North Bluff Street. In Saxonburg, lines will be replaced on South Rebecca Street and West Water Street.
During construction, customers could experience temporary service interruptions, discolored water and lower than normal water pressure.
Weather permitting, work should be completed by late summer.
No word on exactly when construction is expected to start. A call to Pennsylvania American Water was not immediately returned.
