Water in the Butler County area is in compliance with all state Department of Environmental Protection requirements.
A spokesman for Pennsylvania American Water told our newsroom that lead levels in Butler County were most recently tested in 2013 and are due to be tested again later this year.
The company has used corrosion control treatment methods for nearly 10 years and has met standards found to be acceptable that entire time.
Results from lead samples are made available to the public as part of the Annual Water Quality Report, which can be found at pennsylvaniaamwater.com.
There has been a growing concern nationally over lead levels in drinking water amidst the crisis in Flint, Michigan. Flint is under a state of emergency until government authorities and independent experts declare the water safe to drink again without filters, which officials have said could happen in the spring.
