Heavy rain Wednesday night and early Thursday morning flooded roads and trapped people in homes and businesses in the City of Butler overnight.
The worst flooding appeared to be concentrated in the West End area of the city. Cars were trapped and abandoned in the rising waters.
Around 3:30 a.m., Butler firefighters were preparing to begin responding to hundreds of calls for flooded basements.
The National Weather Service said Butler County officials reported flood waters had receded at 2:30 a.m. The concern Thursday is now all the mud and debris left over.
According to the National Weather Service, more rain is expected Thursday evening.
