The Pennsylvania Department of Banking and Securities is offering ways residents can avoid overdraft fees in the new year.
Tips include signing up for automatic funds transfer, signing up for low balance notices, taking advantage of technology, and checking all transactions on bank statements.
Overdraft fees can run $20 to $45 per transaction and Americans paid more than $11 billion in overdraft fees last year.
To ask questions or file complaints about checking accounts or other financial products, residents should call 1-800-PA-BANKS.
