Three out-of-state men were arrested after gun shots were fired Sunday in southern Butler County.
Police do not believe anyone was shot or injured, and it’s not yet known if any buildings or homes were struck.
The shooting happened about 2:30 a.m. Sunday morning on Route 356 in Buffalo Township.
According to court records, Buffalo Township Police Officer Daniel Ambrose was parked at True Value Hardware observing traffic when he noticed a Dodge Ram truck, with a Colorado registration, swerving while traveling north on Route 356. Ambrose then allegedly heard a loud sound, which he recognized as a firearm discharge.
The officer began following the truck and soon after, heard a second gun shot. The officer begun to initiate a traffic stop when he allegedly saw something hanging out of the top of the rear passenger side window, which he assumed was a firearm, “which appeared to be aimed at the patrol vehicle,” according to a police criminal complaint.
The truck did stop and police arrested 31-year-old Felix Reyes-Balderas of New Mexico, 24-year-old Juan Rodriguez Carbajal of Colorado and 27-year-old David Estrada, also of Colorado.
Inside the truck, officers allegedly found a loaded magazine for a firearm and a loose bullet on the rear passenger seat. A handgun was also allegedly found in the bed of the truck directly behind where the rear passenger was seated. It was loaded, according to police. A bag of bullets was also allegedly found nearby.
None of the men allegedly had a valid license to carry a firearm and none of the men admitted to firing the shots.
All three suspects remain in the Butler County Prison.
