Some Pennsylvania residents now have the opportunity to start the process to obtain a federally accepted form of identification.
PennDOT has opened the online application for pre-verification for a REAL ID for residents who obtained their first drivers license or photo ID after September 2003.
The majority of residents who fall into this category already have electronic documents necessary for the ID on file with PennDOT.
PennDOT will send postcards to eligible residents inviting them to visit PennDOT’s website to submit a request for a check of Department files. Once PennDOT staff is able to review the request, the applicant will receive notification about the status of the request. Documents may need to be brought in person to a PennDOT Driver License Center.
REAL ID products will be available in the spring of 2019.
