A total of three people were taken to a Pittsburgh hospital after a duplex caught fire in the city of Butler early Saturday morning.
Calls came into the Butler County 911 Center shortly before 1am for the fire on Carbon Street. Authorities tell KDKA that a 30-year-old father and his two-year-old daughter were able to make it out of their side of the duplex, but the man’s 54-year-old mother was still trapped upstairs.
Emergency personnel say that the mother, who was found unresponsive in her bedroom, was flown to West Penn Hospital in Pittsburgh for treatment for smoke inhalation. Her son and granddaughter were also taken to West Penn, but are expected to be released soon.
Four people, including two additional children who live on the other side of the duplex, all made it out safely. Officials say that the fire started in one of the duplex’s kitchens, with damages estimated at a combined $55,000.
