Two people from Oklahoma have been indicted by a federal grand jury for allegedly running a prostitution ring out of a Cranberry Township hotel.
Oscar Carter III, 34, and Shelby Brown, 27, both of Tulsa, were indicted on several charges, including sex trafficking of a child.
The two allegedly transported a minor from Akron, Ohio to Butler in March for the purpose of prostitution. Carter and Brown remain in the Butler County Prison.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office say the indictment was brought following the creation of the U.S. Attorney’s new Project Safe Childhood Task Force, which is focusing on protecting children from sexual exploitation and abuse as the number of sexual crimes against children continue to grow.
“The number of technology-facilitated sexual crimes against children continues to grow,” stated U.S. Attorney Brady. “By establishing the United States Attorney’s Project Safe Childhood Task Force, with six experienced federal prosecutors dedicated to the protection of children, we are able to focus our resources on locating, apprehending and prosecuting pedophiles and predators who seek to exploit children.”
