The U.S. Marshals Service is warning the public about a scam involving penalties for missed jury duty.
This scam begins with a caller claiming to be with the US Marshals, court officers, or other law enforcement and saying that a fine is due for missing jury duty or else the person receiving the call will be arrested.
The US Marshals does not call anyone to arrange payment of fines over the phone for any reason. The Marshals Service urges the public to not give out any personal or financial information to unknown callers even if they sound official. Anyone who has been a victim of this scam should report it to the US Marshals or an FBI office.
