The weather is finally allowing for road construction season to begin and there will be a lot of it in Butler County this year.
Several projects are already underway including:
-I-79 Middle and North Sections Resurfacing Project in Lawrence, Jackson, Lancaster, Muddy Creek and Worth townships
-Route 422 Moraine State Park Access Project in Muddy Creek and Worth townships
-Route 228 Cox’s Corner Roundabout Project in Clinton Township
-Route 228 Pittsburgh Street Intersection Improvement Project in Adams Township
-Route 19 Harmony North Resurfacing Project in Lancaster and Muddy Creek townships
All of this road work means drivers need to be extra cautious while traveling, especially in work zones.
“These people out here working on the roads are husbands, wives, sons, daughters and parents,” PennDOT District 10 public information officer Deborah Casadei said Tuesday. “We want them to get home from work safe.”
Last year, there were 1,800 crashes in work zones in Pennsylvania along, resulting in 1,100 injuries and 19 deaths.
“While that number is declining, it’s still too much,” Casadei said. “We want to get to zero.”
State Police Captain Steve Ignatz – commanding officer for Troop D in Butler- says conditions in road work areas can change quickly and drivers need to be on alert. Ignatz reminds drivers that fines in work areas are doubled, so if you get caught speeding or texting it could be a big hit financially.
