A Pittsburgh man has entered a guilty plea to charges that include possessing drug-soaked paper while an inmate in the Butler County Prison.
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 26-year-old Chance Rice entered the guilty plea in federal court with regard to an incident that occurred on July 10, 2018.
While being held in the Butler County Jail for gun crimes in Allegheny County, the Deputy Warden arranged to have Rice’s cell searched and the drug-soaked paper was found. A lab determined the paper contained a type of synthetic marijuana. Rice allegedly admitted in court that he possessed this drug to distribute to other inmates.
Rice will be sentenced in June but could face up to 50 years in prison as a result of all the guilty pleas he made.
It was in mid-August 2018 when six Butler County prison workers were sickened after coming into contact with what was determined to be synthetic marijuana.
