There is an increased police presence on the Butler High School campus on Thursday after a threat was discovered against the school last night.
Superintendent Brian White said the threat was made towards the high school and alleged that a specific individual would commit an act of gun violence.
Butler Township Police visited that individual overnight. Police determined the person was not a student and had no knowledge of the threat or have any intent to commit the threat. They believe the story was fabricated and the person behind it wanted to cause harm to the individual whose name was used.
School started on time Thursday morning. School officials said Butler Township police officers will have a visible presence on campus today out of an abundance of caution.
The superintendent said the person behind this threat will be identified and the district, as well as the district attorney, will take immediate legal and disciplinary actions.
