The vast majority of Butler Area School District employees needing to submit security clearances have done so.
Butler Superintendent Dr. Dale Lumley told our news room “All the teachers were able to successfully complete theirs. The last of them came in Thursday the 31st. The only two employees that had difficulties were people that had difficulty reading their fingerprints.”
Lumley confirmed that no substitutes were needed in order to ensure that all district employees were in compliance with Act 153 which was passed in 2014. The two employees who did not receive their clearances in time were members of district support staff.
Lumley does not expect trouble making sure employees are screened in the future.
“This is a large group because it would have been anyone that was five years or longer. There could have been employees here for a number of years that haven’t updated their clearances. This was the biggest group. We’ll have a smaller group moving forward,” Lumley explained.
The law requires state police background checks, child abuse clearance, and a fingerprinting check with the FBI. The total cost of each screening is about $40.
