The Allegheny-Clarion Valley School District in northern Butler County is closed for a sixth day in a row due to the ongoing water issues plaguing Foxburg.
“We were hoping to be back into school this week, but due to a water break in the Foxburg Water Authority on Wednesday night, there was a 48-hour water advisory put into effect. Due to concerns over contamination, we decided to cancel school both Thursday and Friday,” Superintendent David McDeavitt said in an interview.
Even though the new leak has been repaired, the Department of Environmental Protection is doing testing of water samples so no classes will be held on Friday. The district will bring in bottled water for students and staff to use beginning Monday to eliminate the possibility of contamination.
No decision has been made about how the missed school days will be made up, but that conversation will take place at a school board meeting later this month.
“We could use the makeup snow days built into the calendar. We could also add makeup days to the end of the year. I have also contacted the Pennsylvania Department of Education about a possible waiver about these days. I haven’t heard back yet from PDE,” McDeavitt said.
Customers of the Foxburg Water Authority have been under a boil water advisory for the past week after a pump failure and several water line leaks.
