For the first time in six years, the top elected and appointed officials in state government won’t be getting automatic pay raises.
A 1995 law authorizes annual raises for hundreds of officeholders, including judges, legislators and executive branch officials, to offset increases in the cost of living.
But, the federal government’s Consumer Price Index for the region that includes Pennsylvania declined this year. This is the first time since 2009 that the index did not go up.
