There continues to be very little progress with contract talks between the South Butler County School Board and the district’s teachers union.
“We did not meet face to face,” Pennsylvania State Education Association representative Brooke Witt said. “We went back and forth a few times through the state mediator but ultimately no proposals were exchanged and nothing happened.”
Witt continued saying the association has not received any response from the school board in the way of movement from their previous position on issues including wages, healthcare and post-employment benefits. The two sides met on Thursday for less than one hour.
On the other side, the district’s solicitor said the school board has provided the union with multiple full and complete proposals that have included significant compromises but they are not getting realistic responses.
“The expectation that somehow the board is going to continue to make concessions in response to the teachers’ refusal to make any concessions is part of the problem in these negotiations,” solicitor Tom Breth said.
No additional dates for future negotiation sessions have been set at this time but both sides expressed a willingness to continue meeting.
