The 2022-23 Butler Area School District preliminary budget put forward by district administrators still has a lot of questions attached but once again does not include a tax increase.
The proposed budget of just over $106 million will be voted on during next week’s school board meeting. Local tax rates would remain stable at just over 104 mils and this would mark the third consecutive year the district does not anticipate the need to raise local tax rates.
Although some positions will be eliminated as a result of the closing of Butler Middle School, no district employees will be furloughed. Superintendent Dr. Brian White says two additional elementary teachers will need to be hired along with a cooperative education position to help manage students earning credits on job sites.
The district is attempting to navigate assessment appeals by several large local property owners which could result in a loss of about $150,000 yearly to the district. Also still to be determined is the revenue total from the state which is anticipated to be an increase from last year but the exact amount is still being negotiated by lawmakers.
Following next week’s vote, the budget will be posted for 30 days before school board members will vote on final approval in June.
