Butler Area School District administrators are nearing the end of the process to figure out where current Middle School faculty will be working next year.
As part of the restructuring planned to go into effect this fall, fifth grade will be moved back to the elementary schools while sixth grade will shift up to the Intermediate School.
According to Superintendent Dr. Brian White, this process is about 90% complete with fifth grade teachers choosing their buildings based on seniority and sixth grade teachers selecting subjects they will focus on also based on seniority.
The role of “specials” teachers in subjects like music and art has yet to be determined but White said that no furloughs are anticipated.
“There are other positions like counselors that need to be posted,” White said. “We do not anticipate any furloughs as a result of this. Part of that is because we have resignations and retirements already, and have openings we can’t fill already. We don’t anticipate anyone not having a spot; they may not have the spot they always wanted. But, any spot with kids is a good spot.”
Middle School co-Principal Jason Huffman will take over the same position at the Senior High School next year while colleague Joshua Hundertmark will transfer to a similar position for the upper grades at Center Township Elementary School this fall.
